Funds Available to Organize Section 8 Tenants in Your Community!

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $10 million Tenant Education and Outreach (TEO) grant to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and its partner, the Mass Alliance of HUD Tenants (MAHT), to sub-award up to $300,000 for three years to local tenant groups and local nonprofit community-based organizations to organize Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) Section 8 tenants in their communities.

Train and EmpowerTenant Groups to:

Improve management and oversight of their homes Work productively with property management and owners Preserve and improve affordable housing

Activities Eligible for Funding Include:

Documenting physical condition concerns and owners' responses to these complaints;

Publicizing and conducting tenant meetings;

Participating in training to build organizational and tenant leadership capacity

Salary and benefits for Resident Outreach Coordinators to promote active tenant participation;

Developing effective working relationships to resolve issues with owners/property managers, HUD, HUD's Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC), and state and local oversight agencies.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Eligible tenant organizations or other community-based nonprofit organizations (CBOs) that serve or propose to serve at least 25 units of one or more HUD Multifamily-housing developments in their city, metropolitan area, or state, where at least 75% of the units receive PBRA funding. Newly formed organizations may submit a joint application with another tenant organization or CBO.
